to the Ace Cafe in London.

As you are aware, the reason we have been unable to book dates for 2008 is because Peter Clarke the current guide is changing roles at the factory and a replacement is currently being recruited. OYT wish Peter all the best in his new job.

Science Museum, Wroughton.
Visit the Science Museum at Wroughton - leave the shop at 10am for a leisurely ride though the country this part of the museum is only open to the public a couple of times a year

The Swindon site is an old World War II maintenance airfield at Wroughton in Wiltshire, The site has been occupied by the Science Museum since the 1970s, when many of the our large civil aviation aircraft were flown into the site as their last resting place.  The site also stores our large scale objects which are not on display and cannot be located at Blythe House.

There are items from the science, engineering, transport and agricultural collections housed in six original hangars.  In 1993 the Museum built a new research store to house objects from another store it had to vacate and those that would be removed from the museum in the future as part of gallery redevelopments.   The research store  has a stable environment and is ideal for sensitive objects.

The largest object on site is probably the Wood Press.  This printing press was acquired in 2001  It weighs 140 tonnes, is the size of two small houses and is a section of the last operational printing press in Fleet Street.  The conservation team worked with experienced engineers from Beck and Pollitzer to plan the cleaning , transport  and installation of the press.
